Positive Impacts On My Workday

Obviously now that I am working, work is a huge part of my life. I am beginning my third month of my first real job. I’d say I have a good idea of what my working life is like now and what helps me have better days at work. I feel really happy today because I might be experiencing my best week of work so far mostly because my attitude has been positive and I have been taking the care to make sure I have a good work week.

Here are some tips that help me have a positive, productive work day:

Getting to work early: This helps me organize, catch up on emails, edit my to-do list, and just take time before I have to get into my day and start on my to-do list.

Listening to podcasts on the way to work: I love podcasts. I can’t think of a recent post where I didn’t mention one to be honest. But they seriously impact my life in so many good ways. Listening to podcasts or people that inspire me puts me in a good mood and motivates me to have a productive day. Also, I find myself laughing and smiling on my way to work when I listen to my pods, so that’s always a good start.

Drinking my morning coffee mid morning: This is random, but I have found 10am is the perfect time for me to grab coffee if I am feeling a little tired. It gives me a moment away from my desk and gives me energy to power through the afternoon.

Working out before, during, or after work: I am lucky enough to have a gym in my office building so working out is pretty convenient. If I go in the morning, I am motivated for the rest of the day. If I go during lunch, it gives me time to think about something other than work and get motivated for the rest of the day. If I work out after work, I get excited for the next day and have time to reflect on the good and bad parts of my day.

These tips might be obvious, but they work for me. I don’t have room in my life to have a bad week because I want to live my happiest life. Doing these things helps me a lot. What helps you have a productive, positive work day?

  1. I’ve found that since starting my new job I don’t feel like I’m just getting through the week to get to the weekend, and that seems to help me feel less stressed. I listen to podcasts while I’m at work, and I often find myself laughing at my desk. One thing that I like about my new job is that we can take a lunch; sometimes some of us from the office go to the dining commons for lunch, or I eat lunch at my desk and then spend the rest of my lunch relaxing or working on my story. It gives me a nice break in the middle of my day. And I’ve also been using the track in the field house to run after work, which is something I look forward to at the end of the day.

    1. That’s awesome that you are enjoying your new job. I love my lunch hour at work too. It’s a good time for me to focus on something else or talk to some of my coworkers about things unrelated to work. Any podcast recommendations? I’m always looking for new ones to try.

      1. Hmmm, not sure if the ones I listen to would interest you haha. One is the morning show of a local classic rock station, another is one called “Write-Minded” by the people who do NaNoWriMo (national novel writing month), one is called “Brunch” by two sports writers who talk about pop culture, movies, music, etc., and the last one is “Section 10”, a Barstool Sports Red Sox podcast. What are some of the ones you listen to?

      2. I’m always willing to try new ones! My friend recommended one to me once that he thought I’d like and I hated it! So you never know haha. I’m not sure you would really like any of the ones I listen to either though. But I listen to a bunch of different ones: I like “What We Said”, “Dr. Death”, “Travelogue”, “In The Arena” to give some variety.
