To celebrate my 5 year blogging anniversary, I wanted to do a post reacting to my first blog post ever. And yes I was very creative and the title was “First blog post ever.” I think is interesting to look back on the way I wrote, how I have changed, and just the overall feelings I have about my first post. It is really crazy how reading this brings me right back to where I was at when I wrote this (physically, mentally, emotionally, etc.).
Hello to whoever ends up reading this,
This is my first blog post, so I thought I should make a little introduction post to tell you some random things about myself and the “direction” I hope to go with this blog.
I am in college studying business.
I am trying to have a positive attitude about all situations.
I love breakfast foods… french toast, pancakes, oatmeal.
I go to as many concerts as possible and listen to all kinds of music.
Running is my favorite activity, with grocery shopping following close behind.
ABC family has the best TV shows.
I’m vegetarian… partially because I love cows.
I want to help people with whatever career I have someday.
This blog is going to be about all kinds of things… adventures in my life and any topic that seems blog-worthy.
Many blog posts to come! And thank you if you read this awkward introductory post!
The overall format of this post is a little weird since it is just a list of things about me. Some of the things I noted seem relevant and are topics I covered a lot in later posts, but others were a little random (like the ABC Family TV shows part haha). It is kind of cute though and makes me happy that I made this first post.
A lot of the things I listed are still true… I am still working on having a positive outlook on things, I am still vegetarian and always will be, and I still want to help others with my career. Also, as random as it was to write, ABC Family shows are still the best (shoutout to The Fosters and The Lying Game if you ever watched).
Some of them are half true at this point. I like running and I like grocery shopping (not quite as fun with COVID). I like breakfast foods, but I think it is my least favorite meal of the day now. I still like to go to concerts but I don’t go to as many as I used to, so they aren’t a big part of my life anymore. And most obviously I am not in college anymore, but I am working in the “business world” now.
There are a few things that really stand out to me in this post. The first is the feeling of hope and positivity I can picture 19-year-old Ellie with. I love that and I hope in 5 years my posts will give off that same feeling to me.
The second thing is that I wrote running was my favorite activity. Looking back, this was the first part of my journey to a healthier relationship with running. Before I started blogging, running was my life. It was honestly my number one priority (I want to do a full post on this topic sometime). Now running is a very small part of my life. That kind of makes me sad because I know how great running was for me when I was running for fun. But also happy because I have many other hobbies to go along with running now. Maybe this is a sign to start training a bit more seriously again?? We will see!
The third thing is the line about wanting to help people with my future career. I think I am helping people in some ways with my career now, but maybe there are other hobbies or activities I can add into my life to help others in different ways too! I think that would be really fun and make the younger version of myself really proud (and the current version too).
Finally, I will end this post by saying that blogging has always been a fun outlet for me and I am so happy that I started blogging 5 years ago. I wonder how long I thought I would be blogging when I originally wrote this? The summer I started this blog and the entire year after was one of the best years of my life. I remember feeling like I was finally figuring out who I was and what I cared about.
Thank you for sticking with me for 5 years now!! That is pretty crazy to think about. I appreciate everyone who takes a second to read or comment on my posts. I know I don’t have a giant following, or groundbreaking stories to share, but I write these like they are going to be published on the first page of magazine. My writing skills aren’t amazing, so they probably don’t fully show that, but I do put a lot of heart into my posts!!
Should I do more of these posts in the future? I already have some in mind that would be good to reflect on.
Also, the cover photo is from 5 years ago with my bff, Emi. She was doing a practice photo shoot that day and I was her “model” haha. A photo she took that day was the cover photo for my first blog post and I’m pretty sure my profile photo on here for awhile I am so happy Emi and I are still best friends 5 years later ❤
