Shout Out to Annie

When I was younger, and arguing with my sister (Annie), everyone would tell me how we would be best friends someday (probably something everyone has heard). I really didn’t think that would happen, but it did.

The past couple of years, with me in college, and then her freshman year, we definitely became closer. Every break from school we look forward to hanging out and living together again for winter break or the summer. I used to be jealous of other people who had siblings who were way older or way younger, but now I am so thankful that Annie is so close in age. We like to do a lot of the same things and have many of the same friends. We go to concerts together, go shopping, get popsicles, drive around town (or I force her to go to the library with me), or just sit at the kitchen table and talk.

Even though Annie is younger, I admire her very much. Annie is kind to others, confident, and hilarious (if you saw the Snapchats she sent me, you would think so too). Her one slip up is she doesn’t put her dishes in the dishwasher after meals, but I can just let that one slide.

Hanging out with Annie is one of the things I am most excited about this summer. There is no one I would rather have biking alongside of me while I run, even though she thinks we are racing or something, and therefore I am sprinting and exhausted.

So shout out to you Annie.

Summer is Here

I am about 3 weeks into my summer and I have decided that I am officially excited about it. Most of all I just want some nice weather for once. I went to a concert 2 weeks ago and had to wear gloves and a winter jacket.

This summer I am excited to…

1. Run with Emi

2. Have time to read

3. Hang out with my sister (she looks thrilled too)

4. Eat blueberries

5. Finish and actually understand my summer class

6. Run a race on the 4th of July

7. Play with my younger cousins all day

8. Learn as much as I can at work

9. Go to concerts

10. Purchase a giant gnome at Kroger (it needs to go on sale first)

11. Go to Hilton Head with my best friends

12. Tie dye a bunch of giant shirts

13. Attempt to make good vlogs

14. Be with my dog

15. Hang out with friends, Connor,  and my family
What are you most excited about for summer?

Vegan for a Minute

Currently I am vegan. I am just trying it out. I have tried once before, but I had a 10-day stomach ache, so I stopped. I wanted to try again because it has always been something I was interested in.

I am a week in this time and I have actually felt great. I have a lot more energy which is nice- probably from eating 80 percent carbs. I have been focusing on eating lots of fruits, vegetables, and legumes.

So far this is what I have been having on a typical day:

Breakfast: An apple or frozen fruit and beans (kind of weird I know)

Lunch: A ton of spinach with beans, vegetable mix, and nutritional yeast on it or a sweet potato and some fruit

Dinner: Whatever I didn’t have for lunch

Dessert: Frozen fruit or peanut butter or a bowl of cereal (or two… most likely two) with almond milk

If I am hungry between meals, I usually just snack on some fruit… an apple, grapes, watermelon, whatever we have in the house.

I feel satisfied and energized for my runs by what I am eating, but I don’t think I will continue eating vegan for very long. I think for me, I need to have some dairy, like Greek yogurt and especially cottage cheese. I know that you can eat a vegan diet and get the protein you need, but that is the only thing I think/know I am lacking from this way of eating.

I was vegetarian before this and will keep eating some of my vegan “meals” because I like all of the things I have been having, but cottage cheese was one of the main foods I relied on before this. It was basically a food group for me, so my body misses it. Lol.

If you are interested in eating a vegan diet, I would recommend trying it out. It is a great way to fill your body with lots of nutrients and get way more fruits and vegetables into your diet. But if it isn’t something you are interested in, thanks for reading anyways 🙂

If anyone has any vegan meal ideas, definitely let me know in the comments.

Also, this is just my experience with veganism. It is different for everyone and everyone has their own opinions on what people should and shouldn’t be eating.

Sophomore Year Recap

I haven’t posted on here in so long! I was finishing off the last few weeks of school and now I’m home for summer.

It was definitely a fun year with new people, challenges, etc. I didn’t like any of my classes second semester, but hopefully next year I will like them better.

I took some time off of running after my half marathon. Not necessarily a couple weeks, but my runs just weren’t as consistent.

Some highlights of the year…

Playing with the tigers at Wildlife in Need

Bonfires with Sam, Nate, and Lauren

Visiting Aislinn at Purdue

Visiting Emi in Chicago

Valentine’s Day even though it was the 12th

The day I made this oatmeal for the first time

Emi visiting IU

My weekend at IUPUI & seeing Mumford and Sons with Annie

Collecting these cute gnomes

Planned on having the best year ever and I did. But next year will be even better.
